Time will give you the internal affairs ministry you need for the next part, create a cabaret and turn it into "secret police". Always avoid "Shanties", they are just overrated "Shacks"and carry the same issues (high chance of sickness, polutive and space consuming). This step removes the need of issuing "Free Housing", "Social Security" or "Same Sex Marriages" saving a few tropico bucks in the process. Remember to micro management your prisons (both high school and literal ones) so you don't get red numbers, because of students/prisoners that generate low income or none at all, one trick i do is to put rent free bunkhouses surrounding the high school so students go there and stop building shacks near that zone. Once it's done create a high school and extra farms, these ones for sugar that can be turned into spicy rum, also the high school will help you with the cop mission. Remember to put Tenements next to these mines and nightclubs once you install your first powerplant. If you don't have that trait, there are two salt deposits in neat areas, one in the beach that can be used to boost fish production and one closer to your starting city that can be used for farming.Ĭlaiming those two maybe a bit expensive but pays on a few months, you will be exporting salt and have enough food to feed your citizens without need to importing. I am a green thumb anti intellectual presidente (with farmer background), i just switched the farms to "papaya" and created a single "Horticulture station" next to them, profit was going up since this. Most of my notes here were gleaned from the boards here and from trial and error (a LOT of error.) I'm sure others will have better suggestions than I've given here. If not, I'll build a church here, a dump there, throw in some edicts that might make them happy, etc. This is where your people get their food and this is important.Įvery so often, I'll look at the almanac to make sure all the factions are happy. Don't forget to add a marketplace near clusters of buildings. They'll just kind of show up on one of the ships coming in. I've also found if you build clinics and hospitals and give the doctors a good wage, you won't need to pay to hire a foreign expert. I give the dockworkers a pretty high pay since they are the hub of where my money comes from. (But I had several cattle farms set to smoked beef so I could export it for a challenge, and they never did export so.)Īlso, it's important to take care of your workers. I've found that keeps things moving fairly well. And I saw a recommendation on another thread that said to build a teamster office for about every 100 population. This ensures your teamsters can get the product to be exported, but it also ensures your factories get the necessary product and stay busy. One trick I picked up on the discussion boards here was to build the factories nearer to the dock, especially the cannery. Tropico 5 needs the mansions, Tropico 4 doesn't seem to care. I'll only add apartment blocks when a challenge calls for it, and rarely will I build houses or mansions. In the midst of all of this, I'll build tenements to keep my population in housing. If I put down a couple tobacco farms, I'll build the cigar factory, but this one isn't a hard, fast rule with me. Once you upgrade one to make freeze dried coffee, it can't be switched back. You'll come across challenges that require exporting both regular and spiced rum. I don't do them all at once, I build them as my money allows. I'll also build two of each of these since these are the two giving upgrades that take over the factory. Doing it this way means I don't have to build a second logging camp to keep up when I finally add the furniture factory.Īfter I do this, I build industries that rely on these, such as a cannery, a rum factory. Make sure to get the upgrade on the logging camp that allows the trees to regrow faster, but I won't upgrade with faster cutting of trees because the regrowth doesn't keep up with it. I'll also try to build a logging camp, horticulture expert, and sawmill early on. I'll also build two of each of the plantations, to ensure not only that my population has enough food, but that I have extra for export. I've found the best way to keep making money is to get the farms, ranches and plantations going as quickly as I can.
